RCI Implements Applix's Real-Time OLAP Solution to Enhance Sales Reporting and Analysis

RCI Implements Applix's Real-Time OLAP Solution to Enhance Sales Reporting & Analysis

Cendant Corporation Subsidiary Chooses Applix iTM1 Over 6 Competitors

Westboro, MA, August 5, 1999 -- Applix, Inc. (NASDAQ:APLX), today announced that Resort Condominiums International (RCI), a wholly owned subsidiary of Cendant Corp. (NYSE: CD), the market leader in vacation exchange services, with more than 3,500 affiliated timeshare resorts and over 2.5 million member families worldwide, selected Applix's iTM1 real-time OLAP solution to enhance their budgeting, forecasting, inventory, sales reporting and analysis for locations in the United States and Europe.

"Applix iTM1's powerful multidimensional engine and scalable architecture enables RCI to make better business decisions because they can easily integrate and analyze both operational and financial statistics. Like many companies, this information resides in various locations. iTM1 makes it very easy for business analysts to quickly develop models incorporating this voluminous and complex data," said Martin Richmond-Coggan, Applix's Vice President of Analytic Solutions. "iTM1's primary use will be worldwide budget consolidation and reporting. RCI is already finding many other uses for the technology."

"Our strategy was to choose the very best technology for planning and modeling, and we found that in iTM1. We were able to develop a much more detailed centralized database for analysis of both revenue and P&L data," said Greg Willett, Manager of Information Reporting for RCI. "Out of the 5 or 6 OLAP vendor applications that we looked at, Applix iTM1 provided the best price performance solution on the market. More importantly, it doesn't take a programmer to build upon the iTM1 application."
