Applix Announces Strategic Alliance Vice President

Former Hyperion Executive Suzanne L. Hoffman To Lead Applix Worldwide Strategic Alliance Effort

WESTBORO, MA -- July 20, 1999 -- Applix, Inc. (NASDAQ:APLX), a leading provider of web-based, software solutions for customer relationship management, business intelligence and desktop productivity management, today named Suzanne L. Hoffman as Vice President of Strategic Alliances. Hoffman will be responsible for developing partnerships and strategic alliances with software companies, consulting organizations, and system integrators for both resale opportunities and strategic partnerships for non-resellers.

Prior to joining Applix, Suzanne held the position of Worldwide Director, for Application Partners with Hyperion Solutions, Inc. While at Hyperion, Suzanne created application partnership strategies for resellers of Essbase, and garnered an increase in the analytic applications for Essbase's OLAP engine to over fifty. Additionally, Suzanne focused on recruiting Essbase-ready analytic applications for both reseller and development partnerships, resulting in a 100-percent increase in both the quantity of channels partners and revenues.

Prior to Hyperion, Suzanne held sales management and marketing positions at Gentia, Inc., Metaphor, Inc., (wholly owned subsidiary of IBM), Ingres, Inc., Cognos Corporation, SPSS, Inc., and the Bureau of National Affairs, Inc.

Suzanne is a graduate of Smith College and holds an AB Degree in Economics and Mathematics.
