Senior Software Engineer- Application Development
SSEAPPDEV/Westboro, MA
Works as an individual contributor in all phases of the iEnterprise Application Development life cycle. Assignments include application design, application coding, unit testing, and application maintenance. Assignments will primarily be coding, unit testing and maintenance. All designs are closely reviewed by supervisor.
Job Description
- Works under the limited supervision of manager.
- Use iEnterprise tools and generic software development tools to develop e-business
applications.
- May advise or assist in application design effort. May have design responsibilities for
pieces of a project.
- May be required to travel to customer sites.
- Adheres to corporate and industry standards of best practice software development.
- Keeps up-to-date in area of specialization.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Two years technical trade school and 10+ years experience or equivalent or
Bachelors degree in Engineering or related field and 2-4 years of experience or
equivalent or Masters degree in Engineering or related field and 2 years experience or
equivalent.
- Ability to maintain high standards of quality and reliability
- Working knowledge of engineering concepts, practices, and procedures in field of specialization. Must have experience with HTML, VB Script or JAVA Script. Knowledge of XML an advantage. Must have experience with multi-tasking, multi-threading, multi-user operating systems such as Windows NT, Unix.
- Good knowledge of iEnterprise and experience in building applications using iEnterprise will be an advantage. This includes knowledge of Crystal Reports.
- Candidate must have good communications skills and be able to show an ability for generating ideas and develop/communicate concepts.
Senior Software Engineer-Application Development

Senior Software Development Engineer (Graphics)

Applix is looking for a project leader for Applixware Graphics, one of the cornerstone applications in Applixware Office. The functionality includes Draw, Paint and Chart - vector drawing, image editing, and charting.
This Linux oriented application must compete with applications created by much larger companies. The Applixware development team is very small, but is tasked with creating very exciting applications that combine the best of open source and commercial realms.
The engineer will be developing on Linux workstations using C and C++.
As a cornerstone set of capabilities in Applixware, this engineer has a major impact on the success of
Applixware Office and Anyware Office. Parts of this project shall be released to the open source community. In effect, this developer shall impact the success of the entire Linux platform.
Qualifications/Requirements
This development engineer must have 3+ years experience in C++. Java experience is a plus, but not required. Significant experience in low and high level graphics is required. This position requires experience and talent at creating professional GUI applications with an understanding of the platform and display system performance issues. Development experience on Unix/Linux a strong plus. A master's degree is preferred.
Senior Software Development Engineer (JAVA)

Job Description
Applix is the leader in developing a distributed office suite that runs on any Java-enabled desktop communicating to a server machine. While Applix is the clear leader in this architecture, it is still in its infancy and we must create major new versions that leverage current Java, security and communications standards.
The desktop portion of the application is to be implemented in pure Java. The server side is implemented principally in C and C++. Versions of the client software must be able to run with current and future Internet browsers as a downloaded Java applet. Enhanced functionality versions must also run as installed applications.
Client-side development is focused on user interface, providing an open interface for external applications to communicate with, and providing appropriate client-side computing. Server-side development includes security, performance, scaling.
Applix has succeeded at demonstrating to the world that rich, robust, applications can be partitioned and distributed over the Internet. The project goal is to now provide a user experience that competes, and wins, against Microsoft and other competitors. Development is done principally on Linux workstations and servers.
Qualifications/Requirements
This development engineer must have 3+ years experience in C++ and/or Java. Experience developing large system software and/or C/C++ based graphical applications. Development experience on Unix/Linux a strong plus. A master's degree is preferred.
Senior Software Development Engineer (Presentation)

Job Description
This position is for an engineer to become the project leader for a significant application within Applixware, the Applixware Presentations package. This Linux oriented application must meet user expectations set by Microsoft PowerPoint, but be developed using far fewer people. The Applixware development team is very small, but is tasked with creating very exciting applications that combine the best of open source and commercial realms.
The engineer will be developing on Linux workstations using C and C++. The engineer will be extending the open source GTK toolkit. As such, the engineer will coordinate with order industry and open source leaders.
A lighter-weight network distributed version is also to be implemented in Java. The success of this engineer will have a direct effect on the success of Applixware Office, Anyware Office.

QA Engineer

Job Description
Quality Assurance Engineer will be responsible for writing and executing test plans for German an French versions of the Applix Enterprise CRM application. Execution of the test plans will consist of both manual and automated test script generation. Apply various quality assurance methods throughout the testing process. Enter requests and monitor the progress of requests and releases in our request tracking system. Ensure technical accuracy of all customer and QA generated requests. Communicate status of testing efforts, issues, and requests to Research and Development management a on a regular basis.
Qualifications/Requirements
Position requires a BS in Computer Science or related experience. Proficient in the German and French languages. Previous experience testing Client/Server applications in a Windows NT environment preferred. SQL and experience with MS SQL Server, Oracle, Informix and Sybase is helpful. Previous experience with Rational (SQA) Robot or other automated regression tools is also helpful.
Sr. Software Engineer

The Spreadsheet engineer will be responsible for maintaining and improving the Applixware Spreadsheet and Realtime applications. Responsibilities include fixing bugs and adding new functionality. Specific technical assignments may include: upgrade of spreadsheet to support internal Unicode character format, support for new realtime data gateways and assist with Microsoft Excel import/export filters.
Qualifications/Requirements
Position requires bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent experience in a related field. M.S. in computer science preferred. Very strong programming ability and experience in C on Unix/Linux platforms is required. Experience in Java would be a plus. Experience delivering and supporting commercial software is strongly desired. Any prior programming experience with office automation software would be a big plus.
Sr. Software Engineer

The Anyware engineer will be responsible for maintaining an improving the Anyware project. Responsibilities include fixing bugs, adding new functionality, and assisting with the Anyware Internet initiative as necessary. Specific technical assignments may include: improvements to the server/client messaging protocol, convert proprietary configuration and system access functionality to more standard models, modernize Java code by removing depreciated functions and upgrading to JDK1.1 and rewrite Java widgets to more closely match server-side implementation.

Sr. Software Staff Engineer - Mobile/Wireless CRM Software

You will be working in a 3 person team building applications for web enabled wireless digital phones, and PDA's (personal digital assistants). You will be creating the viewer component of a model, view, controler architecture for thinly connected users of web enabled wireless digital phones or you will be creating full function micro-applications for execution on PDA's. You will be programming for the Palm OS, and other ultra light weight operating system. You will be using cutting edge internet protocols and encoding languages such as WAP and HDML to create a wireless/thinly connected laptop client or wireless PDA/Cell phone client, or disconnected/infrequently connected client for Applix Enterprise. You will be using C++, Java, and web scripting languages. You will be using a variety of relational databases including SQL Server and Oracle.
