Business Intelligence Competency Centers

What is a BICC?

A BICC unites and promotes BI expertise
Comprised of a working team of IT and business users, a BICC is an organizational structure that groups people with interrelated disciplines, domains of knowledge, experience, and skills to promote expertise throughout the organization and to encourage and standardize BI use.

A BICC builds a path to BI standardization and lower costs
The BICC helps you become self-sufficient in deploying, using, and managing IBM Cognos technologies throughout your entire organization for ubiquitous, unified business intelligence.

“Standardization on IBM Cognos 8 BI coupled with a common, adaptable and repeatable framework in the form of a BICC will both reduce the total cost of ownership and act as a positive catalyst in achieving long-term success in BI implementations,” says Simon Gratton, Director of Business Intelligence at TELUS.

IBM Cognos Consulting puts you on track

  • The IBM Cognos Global Customer Service initiative supports your journey toward BICCs and eventual BI standardization.
  • The IBM Cognos BICC Discovery Workshop helps you build your BICC vision and strategy by clearly understanding the BICC concept and determining where and how it can be implemented, as well as understanding its primary goals, objectives, and measures of success.
  • The IBM Cognos Solutions Implementation Methodology (SIM) guides you through the steps to analyze, design, build, deploy, and operate your BICC.

Information, standardization and the case for Business Intelligence Competency Centers (BICC)
White Paper
Companies that take a well managed, pragmatic approach to technology are able to unlock the value of business information for competitive advantage. With this in mind, many organizations are creating working teams of IT and business users to improve the strategic value and roll-out of BI. These teams come together as a BI competency center (or performance management competency center). This document is the proceedings from the IBM Cognos Innovation Center roundtables for professionals at its annual user conference in May 2008.
