Metadata Manager provides IBM Cognos Impromptu® report metadata in an automated way. It allows IBM Cognos Series 7 administrators and developers to manage IBM Cognos Impromptu® and Powerplay deployments in terms of report cataloguing, metadata standardization, impact management, and migration roadmap.

The solution also provides dynamic technical specifications for all IBM Cognos Impromptu® reports and cubes. This leads to lower cost of ownership and higher ROI for IBM Cognos Series 7 production deployments, and it significantly lowers the cost of performing upgrades.

Features

Metadata Manager consists of three components:

• File Documentor collects all Cognos files from across the network for the application.
• Report Registry lists all registered reports, and their associated metadata.
• The Elements Library shows all metadata (data sources, data source tables, data source columns, dimensional elements, element definitions, and filters/joins). The Library also provides full impact analysis. Also included are report specs and impact analysis reports.

Users can register reports in batch, or individually. They can combine reports into cube specs or report groups, which gathers the metadata for multiple reports. The full SQL is provided, and all element definitions are fully qualified.

Architecture

Metadata Manager provides metadata for reports. It does not author reports, but provides the information needed to effectively manage them.
